A grander vision – The George Soros story

George Soros was set onto the track of philanthropy at a young age, in 1930 he was born in Hungary and through his youth saw the Nazi occupation of Hungary from 1944 to 1945. Being part of a Jewish family Soros saw with his own eyes a world of intolerance and along side his family helped other members of the community facing oppression to survive the occupation. As time progressed Soros eventually moved to London, where he studied economics, and nine years later in 1956 emigrated to the United States. In the United States, Soros would build a name for himself in the economic world and eventually take a lead role on the stage of philanthropy. Having amassed a fortune from Soros Fund Management, his hedge fund which he founded in 1970, Soros channeled his wealth into making the world a better place and created the Open Society Foundations.
