Amherst High School Plans To Tackle Cyberbullying

Published Post author

Cyberbulling is a common problem. However, Amherst High School is doing its part to combat this problem. It will host the AT&T and Siena Upstander Program. This is a program that will educate teachers, students and school administrators about the dangers of cyberbullying. The program will feature students from Sienna College.

The objective is to encourage people to do something if they know that someone is being cyberbullied. Students are encouraged to report cyberbullying to an adult. Twenty students from Sienna College will participate in the event. All of the students at Amherst High School will attend the assembly.

Any type of bullying that takes place over a digital device is considered cyberbullying. This includes things like cell phones, tablets and computers. Cyberbullying can occur over social networking sites, gaming sites and public forums. Sharing demeaning information about someone and posting private information are examples of cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying is different from schoolyard bullying. Children today have access to digital devices 24 hours a day, so it can be difficult for a person to get relief from cyberbullying. The information that is put online can be permanent. This means that a person’s reputation could potentially be ruined.

Furthermore, it is hard for teachers and parents to recognize the signs of cyberbullying. While there are laws that can protect a person who is bullied at school, these laws usually do not protect people who are a victim of cyberbullying.
