Lawrence Bender attended the University of Maine, gained a degree in civil engineering and an interest in professional dance. Despite these two passions, Mr. Bender is best known as one of Hollywood’s greatest movie producers.
His first taste of production was with Tales from the Darkside, working as a grip. He then produced two movies, Tale of Two Sisters and Intruder, before finding his big break with the film Reservoir Dogs. Since working with Tarantino on Reservoir Dogs, Bender has produced a large percentage of Tarantino’s work.
Lawrence Bender, like his frequent collaborator, Tarantino, makes cameo appearances in many of his films. He was a police officer in the beginning of Reservoir Dogs and can briefly be seen in Kill Bill: Vol 2.
An Inconvenient Truth
This is a 2006 documentary produced by Lawrence Bender; Davis Guggenheim took on the role of director.
An Inconvenient Truth is all about climate change and former Vice President Al Gore’s educational campaign about global warming and climate change.
The film went on to win two Academy Awards. It also saw great success in the box offices, grossing 50 billion dollars, and was praised by critics.
A less successful sequel, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, was released in 2017.
This is just one of the classic films produced by Lawrence Bender. Pulp Fiction released in 1994 to critical success. The film also saw impressive numbers in theaters, grossing 213 million dollars.
Pulp Fiction takes on the view point of several individuals and progresses in a non linear way. Tarantino first had a hard time finding a studio to back the film, but eventually it became the first film fully backed by Miramax.
Pulp Fiction has a heavy-hitting cast including, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Samuel L. Jackson.
