‘Build A House, Build A Home’ is an initiative created by English financial whiz, entrepreneur, author and philanthropist Greg Secker. It’s one of the social projects he’s doing through his philanthropic organization the Greg Secker Foundation. Recently he invited Nonito Donaire Jr., the Filipino-American former world boxing champion, to join him in the Philippines to give over 100 homes to people in Capinahan, Lemery, Iloilo victimized by typhoons. Donaire’s personal mission is to motivate athletes to use their voice and social conscience to make a difference.
Donaire donated a million dollars in 2009 to the Typhon Ondoy victims housing rehabilitation program even though his career was just beginning. In 2013, when Iloilo was struck by Typhoon Haiyan, Filipina Rosario Sanico’s housing rehabilitation program got Greg Secker’s attention. He selected a location in Lemery and built typhoon victims over 100 homes in what’s now called Greg Secker Foundation Village. Nonito Donaire feels athletes can do more than inspire people. He wants to work with others to build over 1,000 homes to improve the lives of the less fortunate. Meeting with Greg Secker lets him start 2018 by being involved in giving back again.
